How to make a Panorama on Google Sketchup

Download and Check out this sample to get an idea : download

Requirements:

Steps:

1. Download all requirements.

2. Move 'cubicpanout.rb' to 'C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 7\Plugins'

3. Open up a Sketchup file and go to a point of your desired view (i.e at the center of the MPM room).

4. Go to 'Camera>Cubic Pano Out'. Click 'Ok' and then 'Save'.

5. Open GoCubic. Go to 'Make Pano > Make Pano Movie' (make sure Cubic is checked).

6. Select the first image file (i.e image0000) and click 'Open'.

7. Output file window will pop out. Just give the Pano Movie a name and then 'Save'.

Side Note:
This is not a really compulsory thing to do.You can just assign the walls as separate layers, so that when you present your design, you can hide the walls in a snap.

this Panorama feature is pretty good if your client does not have Sketchup skills to Navigate around. By having a 360 degrees view of the project you are working on and a Quiktime player, your client can have a good idea on the project space.

PS: On Google Sketchup, you might need to enable 'Shadows' (View > Shadows) and edit by using 'Shadow Settings' (Window > Shadows)

this my current shadow settings for the best panaramo view inside a room:

Day 2 - More measurements and Information

MPM Amendments (Sarah's) -

New design specs using the outside space for:
(check back with Eziyan as she was informed by JV about this update)
  • 'coffee space' at the balcony (infront of the MPM room)
  • storage space at the other balcony
  • use outside space for displaying the ITB souvenirs.

Other facts:
  • the room was used as a prayer room as well (beware, as this is not the main function of MPM room)
  • there are filing issues (the high ranks have their own document space, which is the existing filing cabinet - holding confidential documents, therefore it is secured/locked. but other MPM members do not share the same privilege and their documents are likely to be unorganized due to lack of security or improper filing space.)
  • on the outside ceiling edges has curved corners - i have no idea what's its called. check picture below...

Day 1 - Measurements and Information gathered

i'll make this post quick and crispy.

Assignment Overview:

from what i understand, our task is to design and renovate the existing MPM room which is located exactly above the ITB koperasi/shop. Our work is to be presented on Google Sketchup, which for the first phase of this assignment will require every member to produce their own individual designs and present/discuss them by 12th May 2010 (present only to all members and Miss JV).

Mind you that this is sort of similar to our previous assignment except it needs more detail in terms of costs, materials, contractors, market availability and etc. Everything must be in detail!  But do not let that limit your creativity!.

Accuracy is vital, therefore if you need to note down prices, dimensions, nature of some materials at the market, please do, jangan malu-malu. Whatever information you have collected from the market will be needed in the future in case we have to trace back on some materials of interest.

From my experience, in terms of designing, its ok to have slight deviations but keep it to a minimum because in the end, the contractors/labourers are the ones doing the work, they'll figure out how to utulize the materials in hand to meet the intended design.

reminder for all, NO EXTREME IDEAS like jacuzzi and putting windows on the toilet side LOL but you can keep them~ ;p

don't forget, Its Miss JV's idea to have a storage partition, you might not need it. (but its a good idea!)

best of luck everyone! (If you need any help, just contact me)

i'll be putting a new post on the updated dimensions on Saturday, 8th May 2010.

Information Gathered:

current facts on existing MPM room
  • the room was originally a store room.
  • 2 a/c units (one that is near to the door is not functioning)
  • 8 ceiling light slots (each slot has 3 florescent light, not all lights are working)
  • one area of the floor has tiles coming out.
  • excessive storage (ITB apparels, souvenirs, banners, others).
  • the ITB stuff is planned to be sold for generating side income.
  • 2 unused telephone ports
  • the room has one 1 power outlet
  • no windows.
  • 1 PC
  • 2 storage cabinets
  • 5 storage/display racks
  • 1 document cabinet

Facts based on the People who uses the room

from one of the YDP -
  • the main function is to conduct meetings with MTs, Exco, Students(ECA), etc
  • he did not mind to have a laid back settings (as in, the use of tables is not really necessary. use sofa instead of a formal meeting room style)
from Asymawie -
  • break one side of the wall to create a sort of 'counter' similar to the Admin. (so that they can sell those ITB stuff from the inside)

Ilham and Eziyan should know best :p so ask from them too!
